Fann Mountains offer a unique destination experience, with turquoise lakes, high peaks, and ancient legends. There are over 30 stunning mountain lakes and a dozen peaks soaring over 5,000 meters in a relatively small area of 650 km².
The region boasts numerous attractions, including the picturesque Zindon and Archamaydan valleys, the spectacular Buzurg (Big) Allo Lake surrounded by imposing rock formations, the majestic Kulikalon, Alaudin, and Marguzor lakes, the renowned Iskanderkul Lake, and the breathtaking waterfalls, which is called “Fann Niagara”.
The region also features the awe-inspiring Chimtarga, Energia, Chapdara, and Buzurg (Big) Hansa Peaks, attracting hordes of trekkers and climbers from around the globe. This region is a dream destination for trekkers and climbers alike.
- Chimtarga is the highest peak in the southwestern part of the Pamir-Alai mountain system, called the Fann Mountains. Its height is 5487 m above sea level, which is only slightly inferior to the height of Elbrus.
- The Fann Mountains are truly awe-inspiring, with their soaring peaks, lush valleys, and hundreds of sparkling lakes. They're a living testament to the rich history of the ancient Sogdian civilization.
- The breathtaking "Haft Kul" (famous as "Seven Lakes") will take your breath away with their bright and constantly changing colors.
- Iskanderkul Lake, named after Alexander the Great (in Tajik - Iskandari Maqduni), is a stunning alpine lake surrounded by myths and legends. Iskanderkul, considered the heart of the Fan Mountains.
FANN MOUNTAINS: PEAKS AND LAKE LANDSCAPES
The highest point of the Fann Mountains is Chimtarga Peak (5,494 m).
South of Chimtarga, in the Zarafshan Range, rises Energiya Peak (5,100 m). To the north, Chimtarga is bordered by Mirali Peak (5,200 m).
The northern spur boasts the remarkable peaks of Bodkhona (5,300 m) and Chapdara (5,200 m), while the southern spur boasts Krasnye Zori and Belyi Bars.
The Eastern Fann Range, starting from Energiya, features the following four-thousanders: Zmeya (4,150 m), Fizkultura i Sport (4,120 m), Gratuleta (4,230 m), Chinal with the Fagitar spur (4,277 m), and Paykhamber (4,958 m); The five-thousanders are Zamok (5,070 m), Cherny Peak (5,010 m), Malaya Ganza (5,031 m), and Bolshaya Ganza (5,306 m); the four-thousanders are Fan-Ulla, Sarof, Korabliki, Zinakh, and Shome.
From the central peak of Sarof, spurs extend north and south: to the north is Turzulsky with the peaks of Stupenka (4,200 m), Bashnya, Patrush (4,040 m), and Tangi; to the south is a short spur with the four-thousander Pal'tsy (4,150 m).
The Western Fann Range boasts the following peaks: Maria (4,800 m), Aurondag (4,600 m), Saryshakh (4,700 m), and Gaznych (4,200 m). In the Zarafshansky ridge to the south of the Energiya peak are the peaks of Skalnaya Stena (4734 m), Moskva (5200 m), Sakharnaya Golova (about 5000 m), Pushnovat (4600 m), and then the ridge turns to the west and forms a powerful rock-ice barrier Dukdona with peaks up to 5000 m.
